So…I totally recycled this post from Tumblr (don’t judge me). I hope you’re encouraged by this post. It’s definitely helped me through some rough times.
It can be pretty tough to maintain a healthy self-esteem. I struggled with horrible self-worth as a child, and sometimes I still struggle with truly loving myself. I’m thankful to have developed some strategies to foster self-love, and I want to share some things that have helped me foster a better self-image.
1) BE HAPPY YOU’RE ALIVE!!!!
Yes, I know it’s super corny (and may be of little consolation), but PLEASE be thankful for waking up each morning. So many people were not as fortunate as you to live another day, so count yourself blessed.
2) DON’T FOCUS ON YOURSELF
It’s a proven fact that the less time you spend
being self-absorbed with your own problems, the more joyful you will feel. Praying helps me to stop focusing on my own issues, and helping out my loved ones is super uplifting.
3) REALIZE THAT OTHERS HAVE IT MUCH WORSE
“I cried because I had no shoes until I met a man who had no feet”
Trust me, no matter how horrible you feel, there are other people whose struggles are far greater. Believe me.
4) KNOW THAT YOU ARE NOT ALONE
The world is literally filled with billions of humans who have struggled with and overcome insurmountable odds. The chances of finding at least one other person who is enduring what you are going through is pretty much guaranteed. If your friends and family can’t relate to your feelings, try online forums! There are plenty of people with whom you can connect and share experiences.
5) YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL!!!
You don’t need anyone’s permission to feel beautiful and worthy. I believe I’m beautiful because I’m God’s child, and He don’t make ugly things! Lol! Of course, you don’t have to be Christian to realize your own beauty within the God you serve. Heck, you don’t even have ascribe to any religion to realize your own beauty. We should all understand that we are beautiful and worthy simply because we exist in the world. No matter what anyone tells you, just know that you are beautiful!
I’ve found that we can be our own worst enemies, but if we can manage to love ourselves a little bit more, our lives would be much better!
